48x 72'' x3''original painting

Inspiration
This piece was inspired by autumn along Alberta’s river valleys, when the aspens turn brilliant gold and their reflections shimmer across clear, moving water. I was drawn to that fleeting moment when light transforms everything — when the cool blues of the river meet the warmth of fall foliage and create a living tapestry of color. The contrast between solid stone, flowing water, and luminous trees speaks to the changing seasons we experience so vividly in the Canadian landscape.

Statement
This painting explores the dialogue between movement and stillness. The river is in constant motion, yet it holds and mirrors the glowing forest above it. Rocks anchor the composition, grounding the eye, while ribbons of turquoise, orange, and gold carry it forward through the scene. Exaggerated color and expressive brushwork are used intentionally to heighten emotion rather than replicate reality.

At its heart, the work is about reflection — both literal and internal. Just as the water reflects the trees, we reflect the seasons of our own lives. Strength and softness, change and permanence, coexist here. The viewer is invited to pause, breathe, and step into a moment where light, color, and memory merge into quiet connection.
